Bubble Formation in ITER-Grade Tungsten after Exposure to Stationary D/He Plasma and ELM-like Thermal Shocks

چکیده

Plasma-facing materials (PFMs) in the ITER divertor will be exposed to severe conditions, including exposure transient heat loads from edge-localized modes (ELMs) and plasma particles neutrons. Tungsten is material chosen as PFM for divertor. In previous tests, bubble formation ITER-grade tungsten was detected when fusion relevant conditions. For this study, simultaneous ELM-like D/He (6%) linear device PSI-2. Bubble then investigated via SEM micrographs FIB cuts. It found that 100.000 laser pulses of 0.6 GWm−2 absorbed power density (Pabs), only small bubbles nanometer range were formed close surface. After increasing Pabs 0.8 1.0 GWm−2, size went up about 1 µm deeper below Increasing fluence had an even larger effect, more than doubling 2 diameter. When using deuterium-only plasma, samples showed no reduced cracking, showing such caused by helium plasma.

ELM physics and ELM mitigation in ITER

Edge Localised Modes are characteristic of the high performance, H-mode plasmas that are required for the attainment of Q = 10/500MW fusion power in the first phase of ITER operation. The energy released by a type I ELM, in good confinement plasmas, is typically 510% of the plasma stored energy; with low collisionality plasmas at the upper end of the range. Dimensional analysis, experiment and ...

Kinetics of carbide formation in the molybdenum-tungsten coatings used in the ITER- like Wall

The kinetics of tungsten carbide formation was investigated for tungsten coatings on CFC with a molybdenum interlayer as they are used in the ITER-like Wall in JET. The coatings were produced by combined magnetron sputtering and ion implantation. The investigation was performed by preparing focused ion beam cross sections from samples after a heat treatment in argon atmosphere. Baking of the sa...

ELM filament heat loads on plasma facing components in JET and ITER

Observations of localized heat loads to ELM filament impact on the main chamber in JET are reviewed and drawn together to form a coherent picture of the exhaust phase of the ELM. Presently available JET data is quantitatively explained by a parallel loss model of ELM filament dynamics, in which the evolution of filament density and temperature proceeds via a competition of radial advection and ...

Stationary bubble formation and cavity collapse in wedge-shaped hoppers

The hourglass is one of the apparatuses familiar to everyone, but reveals intriguing behaviors peculiar to granular materials, and many issues are remained to be explored. In this study, we examined the dynamics of falling sand in a special form of hourglass, i.e., a wedge-shaped hopper, when a suspended granular layer is stabilized to a certain degree. As a result, we found remarkably differen...
